I did a unique birthday party last weekend that I have been dying to share with you all. My son Holden, who was turning 8 years old asked if he could have some friends stay the night on his birthday. I thought, how great would it be if, when he and all his friends woke up in the morning, they were surprised by a breakfast buffet smorgasbord? I started by selecting a color scheme that suggested "good morning," my choices were baby blue and sunshine yellow. This theme could easily be altered to be a baby shower or boys 1st birthday. In fact, if you enjoy the photos below, please check out our Breakfast Party Kit for 8 available for purchase.
To decorate, I hung blue streamers from the ceiling over the buffet, created a custom "Good Morning Sunshine" framed art piece and used a giant yellow balloon as the breakfast table centerpiece.
I LOVE giant balloons, and the kids did too. Look at their faces as they look up at it from the table.
The table was preset with some of my favorite paperware, wooden utensils, glass milk bottles with striped paper straws and an individual basket of mini cake donuts.
For food choices, we equipped the suitably-named breakfast bar with glass jars of various cereals, scoops, and flavored milks for a serve yourself cereal bar.
At the breakfast buffet:
Donut Hole Pops, Bacon, Mini Muffin Pops, Danish, Croissants and Bagels, Sausage Links, Fresh Fruit, Hard Boiled Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Mini Waffles, Orange Juice and Prosciutto Wrapped Mango with Balsamic and Queso Fresco. To keep the kids busy when they were in between getting second and third helpings, we hired a local caricature artist, Chad Straka from www.fivefunminutes.com. He did and amazing job and is available for your private party or event! |
Since the kids all had their own baskets of mini cake donuts, we decided to forgo a traditional birthday cake and opted instead for a giant, donut topped, cupcake for the birthday boy.
Take out treat boxes included mini cereal bowls, paper milk cartons filled with milk duds and egg cartons with chocolate eggs and plastic eggs with breakfast-themed buttons and erasers.
Favor tags were adorned with the phrase "Stud Muffin."
I would love to hear your feedback on my party if you would be so kind to leave a comment below! Thank you!
This looks totally fun! I'm planning a cowboy theme for my little guy this year... I love the breakfast idea for my daughter though! Where did you find wooden utensils?
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda! A cowboy theme sounds fun! Let me know if you need any help planning! I got the wooden utensils seen above from www.shopsweetlulu.com (I actually got the majority of my party supplies from them.) I highly recommend them and they offer very fast shipping. :)
DeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE this party idea and your pics are AMAZING! Currently planning a surprise 50th for my mom and want to do something unique, rather than the typical "over the hill" theme. She loves coffee and use to be a baker at a doughnut shop....think I just found my theme! Thanks sooo much for the inspiration! =)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Bel! It was a lot of fun, my son loved waking up to his breakfast surprise! I love the idea for a 50th bday! Doughnuts are getting to be very popular party food and I can imagine a gourmet coffee bar with flavored syrups, etc. Check out the pinterest board that I put together while I was planning, I am sure there are an unlimited number of ideas out there! Happy planning! http://pinterest.com/katiejames/breakfast-of-champions/
